The opening ceremonies for Kidsfest 2010 take place tonight at The Forks.

To help launch the fanfare of the Winnipeg International Children’s Festival, a free one-hour performance will be held under the mainstage tent in the north Parks Canada field closest to the Esplanade Riel bridge.

The show runs from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in anticipation for Kidsfest June 10 to 13.

The opening ceremonies will feature some of the event’s biggest performers, including New York’s Hilby, The Skinny German Juggle Boy, Ottawa’s Le Groupe Swing, and Manitoba’s Fred Penner and Jake Chenier. Vancouver’s Ralph Shaw, self-professed King of the Ukulele and vaudeville star will entertain; while Alberta variety performers, The Chairmen, will emcee.

Tickets for the four-day festival are $12 each or $40 for a family pack of four. Gate prices are $14 each or $48 for a family pack of four. Festival-goers can save on the gate prices by getting their tickets at any Winnipeg Safeway or Assiniboine Credit Union location.
