Macdonald Youth Services (MYS) will be on the receiving end of a generous donation by Sport Chek later this morning at its offices on Mayfair Avenue.
Employees from the St. Vital Centre location will make a presentation of sporting equipment to be distributed among a number of MYS programs in Winnipeg, The Pas and Thompson including each of the 17 group homes run by Macdonald Youth Services.
Items include dozens of skis, footballs, soccer balls, basketballs, dodge balls, baseballs, baseball gloves and badminton sets along with skateboards, BMX Bikes, snowboards, snowshoes and two complete street hockey sets.
“The impact of this donation cannot be measured in dollars,” said Erma Chapman, executive director of Macdonald Youth Services. “These balls, bikes and boards will provide the youth we serve with hundreds of hours of activity and play.”Our staff will be able to show our children the positive benefit of sport and joy of being active — it turn, this will help our youth form strong, safe relationships with adults that last through the tougher times, not just during play. MYS cannot thank Sport Chek and The Forzani Group enough for their incredible contribution to at-risk youth in Manitoba.”
