The Exchange District BIZ is holding an inaugural gathering on Friday, July 2 with local artists to bring the first ever First Fridays event to Winnipeg’s Exchange District National Historic Site.

First Fridays will take place the first Friday of every month, and is a coordinated effort between galleries, performing arts venues, retailers, artists, and restaurants to celebrate and promote the arts and cultural side of the heritage district.

The public is invited to take advantage of a rare opportunity to peruse artists’ studios, and to help build a critical cultural mass in the area. Many North American cities have found that First Fridays are a great social event that help to animate arts and cultural districts and to develop new audiences for local artists, restaurants and retailers.

Event organizers are planning to make First Fridays a monthly event.

Participating retailers will display a logo in front of their businesses.

The event runs from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. More details are available at FirstFridaysWinnipeg.org.
