The 37th annual Winnipeg Folk Festival kicked off Wednesday night north of the city. Hundreds of people waited outside the gates to Birds Hill Park in the wee hours of the morning to secure their spots, but no one seemed to mind. These festival-goers are a peaceful bunch.
Emmylou Harris (above), The Wailin’ Jennys and many more took to the stage on opening night.
The night started off calm weather-wise, but later took a turn when a torrential downpour hit the park. The water didn’t phase those in the crowd, though. They came prepared.
