‘Cops for Kids’ Cycling Teams Riding for Child’s Wish

July 15, 2010 7:25 AM | News

Members of the Winnipeg Police Service “Cops for Kids” Bicycle Relay Team are taking part in a 150 km bike ride today in support of a deserving boy and the Children’s Wish Foundation.

Members of the WPS will ride along with their law enforcement colleagues from the Victoria Beach Police Cycling Team on a 150 km trek from Victoria Beach to The Forks.

This will be the fourth “Klicks for Kids” cycling tour for the Victoria Beach Police, as they hope to raise enough money to send six-year-old Joshua (left) to Disney World. Joshua is battling Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a severe and incurable disease which may gradually rob him of his ability to walk, sit upright, breathe easy and move his arms or hands. Joshua, who dreams of one day becoming a police officer wishes to travel to Disney World and meet Jack Sparrow and Mickey Mouse.

Both cycling teams are expected to arrive at The Forks by 1:30 p.m. today, where they will be greeted by Joshua, his family and Children’s Wish staff. The riders will receive a police escort on the final leg of their journey down Main Street from West St. Paul School at 1 p.m.
