A group of Manitoba bands will have the opportunity to reach a larger audience this summer by winning a local radio station contest.

Prophet, The Afterbeat, Broken Halo and Talk City took home top honours as the River City Rocks Class of 2010 winners. Each band receives a membership to Manitoba Music, a gift certificate to Quest Musique and air time on Power 97 all summer long.

Listeners voted online for their top 20 favourite local bands, and the list was narrowed down to the best four.

Plans are in motion for a showcase concert in the coming months and one of the bands will be opening the Rockstar Energy Drink UPROAR Festival with Disturbed and Avenged Sevenfold on October 2 at MTS Centre.

Power 97 began the River City Rocks contest in 2003.
