NDP leader Jack Layton is in the city today to tour the Winnipeg Aboriginal Sports Achievement Centre Kids’ Camp.
Layton is scheduled to tour the centre with WASAC executive director Kevin Chief, who is the federal NDP candidate for Winnipeg North.
Layton and Chief are expected to speak this afternoon about the importance of investing in resources to promote safe communities and reduce crime.
“Kevin Chief has spent his life giving hope to local kids and creating opportunities so they have better options than a life of crime,” Layton said in a news release. “New Democrats have a practical plan to hire more police officers and invest in programs to make our communities safer. That’s why I’m in Winnipeg to support Kevin, learn more about his work, and help him carry on Judy Wasylycia-Leis’ legacy of standing up for Winnipeg North.”
