The Winnipeg Goldeyes are in a little bit of a slump these days, but hopefully infielder Brett Dowdy can contribute to turning things around this weekend.

The Goldeyes signed the veteran Dowdy on Friday, who is in his eighth professional season and has played parts of the last five seasons at the Triple-A level in the San Diego Padres and Milwaukee Brewers organizations.

The 28-year-old Florida native hit .317 in 18 games this season with Triple-A Tecolotes de Nuevo Laredo (Owls of Nuevo Laredo) of the Mexican League before an injury ended his time with Nuevo Laredo on June 17. He started the season in the Brewers organization, playing three games each with the Triple-A Nashville Sounds and Double-A Huntsville Stars in April and May.

Dowdy will be in the lineup tonight at Canwest Park when the Goldeyes begin a three-game series against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. Game time is 7 p.m.
