Pioneer filmmaker John Waters is set to talk about his life, career and the city that helped shaped him this fall when he travels to Winnipeg.

Waters will deliver a public address at My City’s Still Breathing Symposium November 4-7, which is planned as part of the Winnipeg Cultural Capital of Canada 2010 program.

“John Waters is an artist whose work is so influenced by his city,” said executive director Carol Phillips. “And in turn the city he lives in has been influenced by his work. He is a perfect example of the symbiotic and essential relationship between culture and city-living.”

Waters’ movies are known for taking place in Baltimore, Maryland, where he still lives.

John K. Samson, poet, publisher and front-man for The Weakerthans, will perform during the evening.

Tickets for the November 4 event will be available in September. Registration for the conference is now open.
