The City of Winnipeg will begin taking preventative measures today to control elm bark beetles, the carriers of Dutch Elm Disease.

From 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., weather permitting, the city will spray American Elm trees on public property Monday to Friday in select neighbourhoods.

Areas on the list this year include Kildonan Park, Assiniboine Park, St. Vital Park, Elmwood Cemetery, Crescent Drive Park, Fraser’s Grove Park and King’s Park.

Boulevard trees in portions of Insect Management Areas 2, 5, 10, 11, 13, 14, 25, 29, 30, 32, 33 and 40 will also be targetted.
