Fire up the barbeque and start thawing out the meat, this is one event anyone with an appetite won’t want to miss.
The 4th Annual Manitoba Open Barbeque Championship begins today until Sunday in Morden and puts grillers against each other to see who can serve up the best piece of meat.
Cash and prizes totalling $5,000 are up for grabs and opens up with the Smoking Competition featuring beef brisket, pork shoulder, pork back or side ribs, and chicken categories. If you’re a vegetarian, the Morden Corn and Apple Festival down the street might be a better fit for you.
But it’s not just all about the meat, you need a good sauce to top it all off. That’s where the Jack Daniel’s BBQ Sauce Competition comes in. Competitors will mix up a sample of their own specialty blend and have it judged by a panel of experts.
The championship is located at Lake Minnewasta Campground, about 1 km west of Morden
