A former Winnipegger-turned-actor who now resides in Los Angeles raised over $8,000 earlier this month during his walk from Winkler to Winnipeg.
Steve Braun began the 150 km walk on August 17 in support of two women’s shelters in the province.
Walk For The Shelters took Braun roughly five days to complete, while helping raise money for the Genesis House in Winkler and Ikwe in Winnipeg.
“Your coverage brought much needed attention to our cause,” Braun said in an e-mail to media. “Perhaps more importantly though, the media coverage of the event helped start a dialogue about domestic violence.”
Donations raised so far are entirely from individuals, which leaves room for organizations to step up and also do their part, Braun said.
Best of all, he plans to do it all over again next summer.
