Hockey legend Thomas Steen is the latest candidate to take a shot at a job inside City Hall.

The former Winnipeg Jet is seeking election as a councillor in the Elmwood/East Kildonan ward.

“I am extremely excited about facing this new challenge,” Steen said in a news release.

Steen, 50, said he chose to run after his recent bid as a Conservative candidate during the last federal election. “During the campaign I was welcomed into so many homes and was able to talk to people and really get to know the community and its hopes as well as the issues that concern them,” Steen said.

Steen’s campaign will focus on crime prevention, getting value for tax dollars, expanded recreational and business opportunities and finding ways to work effectively with all three levels of government.

Former CTV reporter Shaneen Robinson, Rod Giesbrecht and Nelson Sanderson are also running in Elmwood/East Kildonan.

The civic election is October 27.
