The Manitoba Floodway Authority is closing Courchaine Road on Tuesday between Turnbull Drive and St. Mary’s Road.
The reason for the closure is so construction can continue on the Red River Floodway Expansion Project.
Alternate routes suggested are to use the Ste. Agathe Bridge as an alternative crossing to the south, Highway 59 to the east, and the Perimeter Highway and Bishop Grandin Boulevard as alternative crossings in Winnipeg.
The bridge will remain closed until March 31, 2011.
Arrangements have been made to ensure emergency services are maintained for local residents.
Weather permitting, two additional hydraulic cylinders will be installed into the east gate of the structure. In addition, the Floodway Authority will be installing erosion protection measures along Courchaine Road to protect against a 1-in-700 year flood.
