Gas Line Rupture in Emerson Forces Evacuation

September 13, 2010 2:42 PM | News

There were some tense moments Monday morning in Emerson when a gas line was ruptured.

An excavator working in a ditch on a residential street hit the line shortly before 9:30 a.m.

A safety perimeter was established, and a number of residences, two senior homes and the local school were evacuated as a precaution. Evacuees were taken to the community centre.

The all-clear was given just before noon after Manitoba Hydro repaired the leak. Those who had been evacuated were allowed to return.

No injuries or damages were reported as a result of the leak.

The cause of the rupture is under investigation by Manitoba Hydro.
