The best transport drivers in the country are competing in Winnipeg this weekend in the National Professional Truck Driving Championships.

The three-day national competition began Thursday and will end Saturday with a practical driving challenge, taking place in the east parking lot of Canad Inns Stadium.

On Saturday, competitors will square off in six classes: Step Van, Straight Truck, Single-Single, Single-Tandem, Tandem-Tandem and B Train. They will have to navigate a difficult and tight course that simulates real world driving situations.

This morning, the written and pre-trip inspection tests will take place prior to Saturday’s big events.

The Manitoba Trucking Association is hosting the event and has Manitoba drivers competing in all six classes this year.

Trophies will be handed out after an awards dinner at Canad Inns Polo Park on Saturday at 8 p.m.
