The United Way has a lofty goal to raise $18.8 million this year as part of its 2010 campaign, which kicked off on Friday.

People from the business, labour, government and non-profit sector came together at Red River College’s Stevenson Campus to celebrate the campaign launch in a plane pull competition.

The 7th Annual Plane Pull put teams against each other to see who can pull a commercial aircraft the furthest in the shortest period of time.

Campaign Chair Gregg Hanson made a grand entrance to the event on a Harley Davidson motorcycle as part of the campaign’s “Be BAD” (Buck A Day) theme. The United Way is hoping Winnipeggers open their wallets and give at least one dollar a day to help them reach their goal, which is $600,000 more than last year.
