Nine people were sent to hospital Sunday night after two vehicles were involved in a collision on the Trans-Canada Highway near Douglas.

RCMP say a 2005 Chevrolet Impala driven by a 24-year-old Winnipeg man hit a deer while travelling eastbound on Highway 1. A 2006 Honda Odyssey minivan driven by a 37-year-old Carberry man struck the back of the Impala.

Three passengers in the Impala and six in the Honda were all taken to hospital at around 8 p.m. At least one passenger suffered serious, undetermined injuries.

Alcohol is not considered a factor in the crash. Police continue to investigate.
