The Manitoba Theatre Centre is welcoming the public this weekend for a behind the scenes look at the magical world of theatre.
Guided tours of the John Hirsch Theatre at MTC Mainstage will be available free of charge. The tour includes the stage, the props area, the carpentry and paint shops, as well as the rehearsal hall, where people will meet MTC Associate Artistic Director and veteran Winnipeg stage actor Robb Paterson.
Costume and set designs, and scale models of sets (maquettes) will also be on display.
A kids craft area is available for children to try out their creative side, and MTC Artistic Director Steven Schipper will be on hand to speak with visitors while they enjoy free refreshments.
The open house will run from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 25, with a reading of Winnipeg playright Alix Sobler’s “The Golem” at the Tom Hendry Theatre at the MTC Warehouse at 3 p.m.
The event is part of Culture Days, a coast-to-coast celebration of arts and culture, which kicks off on Friday.
