A three-day festival celebrating arts and culture coast-to-coast gets underway tonight at the Forks beginning at 7 p.m.

Culture Days will feature talented Aboriginal artists, musicians and displays at various venues throughout Winnipeg and Manitoba until Sunday.

The events are open to the public free of charge with the opportunity for hands on participation.

The Summerbear Dance Troupe performs as part of the national kick-off at 7 p.m. tonight, followed by hoop dancers from the Found Nations of Manitoba Tribal Village.

Beyond Winnipeg, other communities also have active hands on art discovery activities. The community of Peguis offers Pow Wow 101 for girls to teach the ancient and contemporary dance styles as well as costuming for traditional Aboriginal pow wow gatherings.

A complete itinerary of events is available at CultureDays.ca.
