Equestrians will be well represented Saturday and Sunday in their vie for the title of Manitoba Champion.

The second annual Manitoba Equestrian Championship (East vs. West) will be held at the Manitoba Horse Council (MHC) Equestrian Centre in Birds Hill Provincial Park.

Riders of all ages from throughout Manitoba will compete and the best up-and-coming equestrians will be featured.

Team Eastman is defending its title this year, made up of athletes from the east part of the province who earned the right to compete after various other competitions throughout the year.

Competition will be broken down into seven equestrian disciplines of Competitive Trail, Combined Driving, Cutting, Dressage, Endurance, Eventing, and Show Jumping. Some disciplines will offer more than one division level. A demonstration of an eighth equestrian discipline of Barrel Racing is scheduled for Saturday.

Admission is free and competition begins at 9:30 a.m. daily.

Other family-friendly activities include pony rides, hay rides, petting zoo, product displays, saddle repair/fitting demo, and tack sale, with proceeds going to CancerCare Manitoba.

A fundraising dinner and dance with proceeds going to support the Manitoba Horse Council will be held at the Birds Hill Park Ranch on Saturday at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 and are available through the MHC office.
