In March of 2009 we compiled a list of Twitter accounts for Winnipeg media and local organizations and groups. The list was part of a post that explained Twitter to anyone unfamiliar with the social networking site. This was also around the time Twitter was just beginning to go mainstream and become a useful tool for journalists and reporters.
A while ago Twitter introduced a lists feature, which allows you to follow a certain group of people all lumped into one category. This makes it easier for you to not only follow your regular timeline, but check in on a specific group of people.
At the request of many of our own followers, we’ve taken the list of Twitter accounts for Winnipeg media, as well as local organizations, and put them into two separate groups.
The Winnipeg Media group includes official Twitter accounts for mainstream news outlets, reporters, journalists, bloggers and columnists. A second group called Winnipeg Places includes businesses and organizations based in Winnipeg, such as The Forks, Red River College, the Manitoba Museum and Festival du Voyageur, just to name a few.
