As part of Fire Prevention Week, the Winnipeg Fire Department is encouraging the public to take part in the Great Canadian Fire Drill.
At 1:30 p.m. today, the WFD in conjunction with fire departments across Canada, will sound their sirens at the Ellen Street fire hall (see video from last year).
Firefighters are also using this week to remind citizens to change the batteries in their smoke alarms and practice a safe escape plan.
An open house and fire safety exhibit will be on display from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at the Fire Fighters Museum of Winnipeg at 56 Maple Street. The Children’s Interactive Theatre will also be on site.
WFD personnel will also be at the Canadian Tire on Regent Avenue between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. handing out information and answering questions about fire safety.
On Saturday, every fire hall across Winnipeg will open their doors and give tours from noon to 4 p.m. McDonald’s will be on hand to serve refreshments to the public.
