Winnipeg broadcaster Larry Updike will be honoured at the upcoming University of Winnipeg Autumn Convocation on Sunday, October 17.
The former CJOB radio personality-turned-Siloam Mission spokesperson and now current CBC Radio host will receive the Distinguished Alumni Award at the hands of the U of W Alumni Association.
“The Alumni Council selected Larry not only because of his remarkable career in broadcasting, but also because of his lifetime of service to his community, especially to those who are among our city’s most vulnerable,” said Alumni Association President Mike Cook.
Updike is an ordained minister and a social advocate, whose role in the community has entertained and enlightened people for much of his life.
The convocation is set for 2 p.m. at the University of Winnipeg Duckworth Centre.
Community activist Nick Ternette was presented with his Distinguished Alumni Award at the university’s Spring Convocation in June.
