A brand new production put on by NAfro Dance will take over the Gas Station Theatre October 21-24.
Return of the Dead will explore traditional African beliefs of death and the afterlife. Choreographed by artistic director Casimiro Nhussi, the five-movement production has NAfro dancers embodying various forms of the dead, from mischievous mummies who refuse to stay put, to confused, angry, decaying bodies ripping out of their pre-burial wrappings.
Return of the Dead runs at 8 p.m. from the 21st to 23rd and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 24.
Tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for seniors and students and $12 for children under 12. Tickets are available at the Gas Station Theatre (cash only), online at NAfroDance.com and cash at the door.
Those interested in getting involved with African dance are invited to drop in to NAfro’s African Contemporary dance classes every Tuesday for beginners and Thursdays for advanced dancers. More information is available by calling (204) 946-0829.
