Beginning tonight, the City of Winnipeg will roll out its fall leaf sweeping program, cleaning up streets city-wide during a two-week period.
The city will utilize 60 pieces of equipment for the cleanup in areas where leaves are particularly heavy.
The public is asked not to rake yard waster material, such as grass clippings, leaves and other debris onto the street. Residents are also cautioned not to place yard waste material into manholes or ditches, as this can also cause flooding problems.
No Parking signs will be placed in areas where crews will be working. Those vehicles parked where signs are present will be ticketed and towed.
Collected leaves will be taken to the Brady Road Landfill for composting.
Residents can drop off leaves at one of the city’s Leaf It With Us depots, which are open until November 15.
The cost of the cleanup is about $350,000.
