Mayoral candidate Judy Wasylycia-Leis pledged Thursday to offer free public swimming at all city pools on Friday evenings if elected mayor next Wednesday.
Watch:
The former NDP MP said allowing free swimming would cost $450,000 annually, with the city paying half of the cost. She would ask the provincial government to foot the remainder of the bill.
Speaking to reporters at Enderton Park, she also pledged to waive fees to attend certain arts events and museums by offering a “culture pass.” The move is similar to what Toronto already does, and would come at a cost of $150,000 a year.
Wasylycia-Leis also addressed the issue of robocalls, saying she believes the CRTC might have provided poor advice on how to conduct them. She said if she decides to make more calls before October 27, she would follow stricter rules.
