Visual artist Wanda Koop and choreographer Jolene Bailie will discuss their collaboration at the Winnipeg Art Gallery on Sunday, November 7.
“Wanda Koop…On the Edge of Experience,” is an exhibit that incorporates Koop’s paintings, video projections, and Bailie’s choreography.
The two will talk about what it was like working together and how each other’s practice has impacted the other.
“Dancing is a visual art, a translation of the body into visual form and display,” said Koop. “Painting is a lot like dance. It’s physical and often choreographic.”
Wanda Koop has been garnering critical acclaim since her work was included in a 1972 WAG exhibition. As well as being named a member of the Order of Canada, she has also received a Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal and three honorary doctorates.
Jolene Bailie, Artistic Director of Gearshifting Performance Works, has created and produced almost 300 dance works over the past decade. Her athletic, visceral, and emotionally resonating performances have been met with enthusiasm and critical acclaim across Canada and beyond.
The public can hear both of them speak beginning at 2 p.m. included with Gallery admission.
