The University of Winnipeg has created a new Department of Indigenous Studies, effective immediately.
The creation of the new program comes after a vote by the U of W senate, and will offer degrees in Bachelor of Arts in Indigenous Studies and Master of Arts in Indigenous Governance, headed by Dr. Julie Pelletier.
Since 2003, the U of W has offered an Aboriginal Governance program and felt it now warranted departmental status.
The first class to study under the program will commence in September 2011.
