Reports circulating Thursday suggested certain HBC stores in Winnipeg were frowning on employees wearing poppies as a symbol of Remembrance Day.
An e-mail to ChrisD.ca claimed employees at The Bay at Polo Park and St. Vital Shopping Centres were told they could not wear poppies while at work. Similar information was also floating around on Twitter earlier in the day.
A spokesperson for HBC says that is simply not the case.
“At no time were employees told they could not wear poppies,” spokesperson Hayley Bessner told ChrisD.ca.
Poppies have long been a symbol to remember fallen soldiers who sacrificed their lives during war.
