A new $7.1 million addition to Sargent Park School will officially open during a ceremony tonight.
The 10,000-square-foot addition includes a new multi-purpose room, washroom/change rooms and four new classrooms. Upgrades to existing areas of the school were also completed, including converting the practical arts area into a new graphics lab, electronics lab, two computer labs, and two classrooms. The project also included a partial roof replacement over the 1957 addition, and a complete steam to hot water heating system upgrade throughout the building with new energy efficient condensing boilers.
Funding for the expansion and upgrades came from the Province of Manitoba, Public Schools Finance Board and the Winnipeg School Division. Roof and heating exchanges were possible by Manitoba Hydro under their PowerSmart Commercial Programs.
The opening will take place at 7 p.m. at 2 Sargent Park Place.
