A giant 33-foot Colorado Blue Spruce was cut down Thursday morning in East Kildonan to become the official Christmas tree at City Hall this season.
Watch:
The 34-year-old tree was donated by James and Doris Wilson of Castle Avenue, who were more than pleased to see it go.
It took crews about an hour from start to finish to remove the tree and place it onto a flatbed truck.
“We’re so excited see it lit up and decorated for the very first time,” Doris Wilson said yesterday in a release.
Fifty-eight candidates were in the running to have their trees chosen this year.
The tree will be positioned by a crane at City Hall on Friday at 9:45 a.m.
An Urban Forestry crew will decorate the tree with over 5,000 white LED lights over the next several days.
