The Manitoba Bison women’s volleyball team isn’t even halfway through its season, but is already stacking the roster with local talent for 2011-12.
On Wednesday, veteran head coach Ken Bentley introduced six local recruits to the Bisons.
Watch:
Emily Erickson is a 6’1″ middle hitter from J.H. Bruns Collegiate, Jordana Milne is a 6’0″ middle hitter from Oak Park High School, Crystal Mulder is a 5’9″ outside hitter from River East Collegiate, Danika Picklyk is a 5’1″ left side hitter from St. Mary’s Academy, Miranda Schmidt is a middle hitter player from Mennonite Brethren Collegiate Institute (MBCI), and Christina Souza is a 5’8″ setter from Vincent Massey Collegiate. Souza also won the honour of being named the Winnipeg High School Athlete of the Week on Wednesday. The British-born, but Brazilian-raised athlete caught the eye of Bentley, who sees a lot of promise in the 17-year-old next year.
The Bisons also introduced Christine Foest, a 6’2″ middle/outside hitter from Notre Dame College School in Welland, Ontario.
This season’s Bisons take on the UBC Thunderbirds Friday and Saturday at the Investors Group Athletic Centre at 6 p.m.
