A crash in Saskatchewan Sunday morning has claimed the life of a Winnipeg couple and injured their four children.
Marcel and Brenda Dubois, both 38, were killed in an accident on Highway 16 about 1 km east of the community of Saltcoats, located about 24 km southeast of Yorkton.
According to police, a sedan travelling westbound was attempting to pass another vehicle when it hit the eastbound minivan carrying the Winnipeg family.
Two of the boys in the van, aged 16 and nine, were taken to hospital in Yorkton, while the other two boys, aged 13 and 15 were airlifted to Regina in critical condition.
The 17-year-old female driver of the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene.
Road conditions at the time were reported to be snow covered with reduced visibility.
UPDATE: The Dubois’ fifth son, 19-year-old Jordan Dubois, remained in Winnipeg over the weekend and has been put into the father role to raise his four younger siblings. A trust fund for the boys has been established at all Scotiabank locations.
