With the festive season in full swing and holiday ‘cheer’ being consumed at friendly gatherings, CAA Manitoba is reminding motorists of its new “Drive You Home” program.

The RCMP and Winnipeg Police have recently launched their seasonal Check Stop initiatives to keep impaired drivers off the road.

Besides using Operation Red Nose to get home safely, CAA Manitoba has its own program for members. If you’re unable to drive due to illness, accident or alcohol impairment, CAA will take you and your vehicle home.

The service launched in September, and has mostly been used for medical-related calls, but CAA says it has also received requests from drivers who had too much to drink.

The “Drive You Home” program can be used once per year, available around the clock, and throughout the province.

“We’re pleading with people to not take the chance,” said Liz Peters of CAA Manitoba. “It’s not worth your life, or anyone else’s for that matter.”

A donation will be made by CAA Manitoba to Operation Red Nose each time a member uses the new service for an alcohol-related impairment.
