Internet giant Yahoo has released its annual Year in Review list of the most popular searches for 2010.
It wasn’t any surprise who topped the list last year, as the death of Michael Jackson became the hottest topic online in the later half of 2009.
And while celebrities still dominate the list again this year, 2010 saw two events rather than people take the top spots.
Top 10 Searches
- BP Oil Spill
- World Cup
- Miley Cyrus
- Kim Kardashian
- Lady Gaga
- iPhone
- Megan Fox
- Justin Bieber
- American Idol
- Britney Spears
Tech pundits criticize the accuracy of the list, suggesting most Internet users no longer use Yahoo for their daily search fix, pointing to Google as the more reliable choice.
Survivor stories were also big on the web this year — with the trapped Chilean miners, plane crashes, kidnappings, shipwrecks, and the failed terrorist attack in New York City’s Times Square all creating a search buzz.
