A team of local hockey players are celebrating their club’s 30th anniversary by playing in the international goodwill games in Germany and Italy.
The Ambassadors Hockey Club is embarking on another international hockey tour in Europe beginning next fall. The tour starts with a small tournament in Ingolstadt, Germany from October 1-2, followed by Peissenberg on October 5 and Sonthofen on October 8. The team will then cross south into Italty to play teams in both Val Gardena on October 11 and Ritten on October 12.
The Ambassadors Hockey Club was put together by a group of young Winnipeg men who formed a team that toured Germany in October of 1981, with the intention of spreading goodwill to Europe.
“The return of the Ambassadors to Europe after 30 years speaks volumes about what Canadians value about hockey,” said GM and player Dave Taylor. “We still enjoy the competition, respect and look forward to meeting our opposition, and genuinely love the game.”
The roster for Europe includes six players that played on the team back in 1981. Join them will be many long time Ambassadors and current team members. The Europe bound players are not all from Winnipeg, as they are also coming from Calgary, Vernon, Vancouver and Victoria — cities they now call home.
