A fundraiser to help the daughter of a Winnipeg man visit her injured father in a Panama hospital is taking place on Tuesday night.

Kristin Coy’s father, Greg, was badly injured in a mudslide last week, which left his wife of two years, Susanna Mureil, dead. Mureil’s son, his wife and their three-month-old daughter were also killed in the mudslide.

Kristin, 27, remains in Winnipeg and desperately needs a passport and money to travel to Panama with her brother to be with their father, who suffered spinal cord injuries and a shattered pelvis.

The community has been pulling together and a fundraising concert was held over the weekend, which raised about $1,400. Winnipeg North MP Kevin Lamoureux is also stepping up, helping Kristin and her siblings get to Portobelo, Panama.

Donations can be dropped off at Lamoureux’s office, 998 Keewatin Street, or by calling (204) 230-9328. A fundraising event will take place at Lamoureux’s headquarters on Tuesday between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.

The family is hoping to fly out as soon as possible to be near their father’s side while he recovers.
