A new executive director for On Screen Manitoba has been named to replace Tara Walker, who will be stepping down in February.

On Monday, the association announced Nicole Matiation as the company’s new boss.

Matiation has worked in the cultural sector all of her career, first in Montreal in the dance community and on contract for the National Film Board of Canada. Upon returning to Winnipeg in 1996, she founded and led Freeze Frame Media Arts Centre for Young People with its annual international film festival for 12 years.

She was most recently the Cultural Industries Consultant for Manitoba Culture, Heritage and Tourism and this year was the Project Manager for Manitoba Culture Days. Matiation has an MA in Media Studies from Concordia University.

Matiation will start on January 17, 2011.

An event on February 4 will officially welcome Matiation and bid farewell to Walker. The day will also formally open On Screen Manitoba’s new office at 003-100 Arthur Street.
