The University of Manitoba now offers the only degree of its kind in Canada to satisfy certain Air Force ranks.

Students can work towards a Masters in Public Administration with a Defence Administration specialty. The program began in September and currently has five students enrolled, but a formal recognition ceremony was held at CFB 17 Wing on Friday.

The Aerospace Systems Course has been offered for over 50 years at 17 Wing, but only provides a certificate. Because a degree is now required to move up the Air Force career ladder, a partnership with the U of M was formed.

The course trains offers in operational requirements, acquisition and analysis, and aerospace systems.

The university won the right to offer the course as part of a competition with Royal Military College. The U of M put the program in place within eight months of being awarded the honour.
