Stranded Trappers Rescued After Snowmobile Breaks Down

December 14, 2010 9:51 AM | News

A pair of trappers reported to be missing ended up being rescued safely on Monday.

RCMP say two men, aged 28 and 55, left St. Theresa Point on Sunday by snowmobile at around noon, but didn’t return as scheduled.

A ground search was being prepared by community members, but RCMP chartered a helicopter at around 11:30 a.m. due to extreme weather conditions and large amount of terrain needing to be covered.

The aerial search eventually located the men 60 km from St. Theresa Point, who had spent the night in an abandoned trappers cabin when their snowmobile broke down.

Both men were airlifted back to St. Theresa Point and examined at the nursing station. They were reported to be in good health.
