After a recent successful fundraiser to draw up $22,000 for residents living in the West Broadway area, Edward Carriere’s Salon will be helping to put healthy and nutritious food on the table for many less fortunate people in the neighbourhood for the next year.

An innovative project called The Good Food Club, assists the 62% of people whom live below the poverty line in the area. Inexpensive fruits and vegetables are provided through the Good Boxes in the Winter, the Veggie Van, which sells organic vegetables in the summer, and organizes a variety of community events that are designed to assist with people with overcoming isolation that so often accompanies poverty.

On Sunday, Edward Carriere is hosting a community hockey game with neighbourhood kids. City councillor and former Winnipeg Jet Thomas Steen, and four Winnipeg police officers and their mascot will also lace up.

The salon hopes to advocate for a regular skating and hockey programs in the West Broadway area, a heated shack, and a place for shovels.

The game begins at 2 p.m. at the Broadway Neighbourhood Centre, 185 Young Street.
