A new production at the Manitoba Theatre Centre will blend video with live theatre when Noël Coward’s “Brief Encounter” debuts on January 6, 2011.

The co-production with the Vancouver Playhouse Theatre Company has received stellar reviews.

“The inner conflict engulfing these two people crackles on the stage. The tension is palpable, the desire tangible and the result absolutely breathtaking. This “Brief Encounter” will stay with you long after you leave the theatre,” the theatre said in a release.

Characters Laura Jesson and Alec Harvey are faced with a dilemma when the temptations of a forbidden nature come over them. They’re faced with the decision to follow their desires or adhere to duty.

Starring Mairi Babb as Laura and Eric Blais as Alec, the play brings together a talented ensemble of actors. Rachel Aberle, Steve Charles, Lucia Frangione, Charlie Gallant, Jonathan Holmes, Shelley Marshall and Blair Northwood create the world where Laura and Alec discover each other and their long-hidden desires.

Tickets range from $31.50 to $68.25 at the MTC Box Office. Students receive 50% off single ticket adult prices. For showtimes and to order tickets, call (204) 942-6537.

The production runs until January 29.
