A vigil for the two teenage girls killed in a car accident on October 31 in St. Vital will be held at the Manitoba legislature today.
Senhit Mehari, 19, and her 17-year-old friend Amutha Subramaniam were travelling in a Pontiac Sunfire on Bishop Grandin Boulevard when they were hit by an alleged drunk driver in another vehicle near St. Mary’s Road.
Both victims were recent graduates of Dakota Collegiate.
The vigil to honour the women will be held from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
A 17-year-old girl faces charges in connection to the accident.
UPDATE: Friends and family gathered and called for tougher drunk driving laws with harsher penalties. They also urged police to keep their check stop program active all year and not just during the holidays.
