High water levels and frazil ice haven’t completely ruined plans for a skating trail on the river this year.
The Assiniboine Credit Union River Trail will open on Thursday from The Forks up until near Churchill High School.
The river west of the market still has open water, and therefore will be running more on the Red River than the Assiniboine.
Skaters can also take advantage of the Arctic Glacier Winter Park, providing 1.2 km of groomed ice and a large hockey rink near Scotiabank Stage.
The river trail may still be able to expand once the water in open areas freezes over.
