A Winnipeg lawyer has been named an Officer of the Order of Canada.
Harry Walsh, 97, was named Thursday by Governor-General David Johnston.
Walsh is receiving the honour for his dedication to criminal law in Canada for more than 70 years, and for his advocacy against the use of capital punishment.
Overall, 54 new appointments to the Order of Canada were made, including 12 Officers and 42 Members.
Recipients will be invited to accept their insignia at a ceremony in Ottawa at a later date.
