Pet First Aid Classes Held at Winnipeg Humane Society

January 5, 2011 6:20 AM | News

One of two classes on how to perform first aid on your pet, should they ever require it, will be held Thursday at the Winnipeg Humane Society.

The first class will take place in the WHS shelter classroom from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

This “paws-on” course is designed to give pet lovers the necessary information that will help them respond to a life threatening emergency involving their dog or cat.

The skills learned will include how to approach a sick or injured dog or cat, safe restraint and transport, recognition and assessment of an emergency involving your pet, and how to give lifesaving rescue breathing and CPR to cats and dogs with practice on a manikin used by veterinary schools.

Skills on how to handle choking, shock and severe bleeding will also be covered.

A second class will be held Thursday, February 24 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Registration is $65 per person and includes either a dog or cat first aid book. Pet owners with both dogs and cats can purchase a second book for $6.75.

Pre-registration and payment in advance is required. To register, call Lindsay at (204) 982-3555.
