January 14, 2011 10:15 AM | Entertainment

To celebrate the opening of the Assiniboine Credit Union River Trail on Thursday, a special fire and light display will kick off the winter season tonight at The Forks.

There will be a DJ, fire dancers, jigging and singing with the Voyageurs, free hot chocolate and free candles for the first 500 people.

The highlight of the evening will be the burning pirate ship at The Historic Port to help warm up those in attendance.

The fun runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Current river trail conditions are available by visiting RiverTrail.ca. This year’s trail spans 3.5 km on the Red River from The Forks to Churchill Drive.
