The city is beginning a major snow plowing operation later today after about eight centimetres of snow fell over the weekend.

Plowing will occur on Priority 2 streets, including bus routes and collector streets, and then move to Priority 1 streets at 8 p.m. tonight.

The Major Snowfall Parking Ban will be in effect at midnight, meaning motorists cannot be parked on any street designated as a snow route between midnight and 6 a.m.

Plowing of back lanes was initiated on Saturday and will continue until completed. Plowing of sidewalks on main routes is also underway and will be followed by plowing of sidewalks on bus routes, collectors and residential streets.

This latest cleanup will include about 350 pieces of equipment and cost an estimated $4 million.
