A Manitoba wheelchair athlete has been named to the 2011 Men’s National Wheelchair Basketball team.

Joey Johnson from Lorette will represent Canada with 11 other atletes at the 2011 Parapan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico from November 12-20.

The Parapan American Games double as Canada’s opportunity to qualify for the 2012 London Paralympics, were the team is shooting for a fourth consecutive podium finish.

“A lot of hard work and sacrifice went into the preparation and execution of this year’s selection camp from both the players’ and coaches’ perspective,” Team Canada head coach Jerry Tonello said in a release.

A week-long selection camp in Toronto helped decide the national roster.
